Originally from the growing town of Hutto, TX, I pursued studies in Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology at Sam Houston State University. I always thought I would build a career in criminal justice, but life led me on a few unexpected detours

Having been an athlete growing up, I felt drawn to coaching and teaching, which I pursued for over a decade. Eleven years later, with the birth of my daughter in 2021, I realized I didn't want to miss out on those precious moments. With my husband's support, including a gifted camera after I expressed a desire to capture our growing family, he also sent me on an incredible photography retreat to learn and grow!

Three years into this journey, I continue to learn, grow, and find inspiration in capturing special moments with my little girl. The name Elena is derived from the Greek 'Helena,' meaning 'shining light,' and her birth flower is the poppy. She is my 'why' and the inspiration behind Shining Poppy Photography.
